Uses of Dexamethasone along with Lenalidomide
Multiple myeloma means the excess and abnormal production of Plasma cells in the bone marrow. This disease causes a decreased level of immunoglobulin level.
Lenalidomide for multiple myeloma is an immunomodulating drug that has an antitumor and anti-inflammatory effect. It works by triggering the apoptosis of drug-resistant multiple Myeloma cells and by inhibiting the binding of multiple Myeloma cells to bone marrow.
Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid drug that is used for the treatment of relapsed multiple myeloma. It works by inhibiting the white blood cell from cancerous Myeloma cells to other parts of the body leading to a reduction in swelling and inflammation in the body.
Lenalidomide 25 mg along with dexamethasone have more important anti-multiple myeloma properties. This combined drug is approved by the FDA for multiple myeloma relapsing therapy after prior therapy. This combination of drugs improves the extent of response and overall survival rate.
